Oh my word!
The other night I was rummaging through the fridge since I was making supper. I had no idea what I was going to make. Then hiding behind a few Tupperware containers I saw it. A pack of ground turkey was calling my name.
Now at this time I had a few a recipes running through my head. First on the list was turkey bolognaise, nah! maybe, I thought, I can make meat balls, and then it hit me. I was going to make Turkey Loaf.
After pondering what spices I was going use I pulled sage, thyme, garlic, ginger, a touch of Cajun spice. Also, I mixed in an 1 egg (I really don’t like filler but this is a meat LOAF pun intended) and I had some whole wheat pancakes that used as bread crumbs and diced tomatoes. Well, as the title states: you guess it! the family loved it. The loaf was nicely caressed by delicious traditional tomato sauce. We couldn’t get enough.
This story has a point and the point is that you have to be ready.
1) Be Prepared: I wouldn’t be about to pull off this recipe if I didn’t have the right ingredients or spices on hand. Buying spices to someone who is a budget fiend might look like a waste of money and space. However, having them handy will allow you create delicious and succulent dishes at a drop of a hat.
2) Be Creative: Some people have recipe books guarded closely in they’re pantries, or secured card boxes where gramma’s recipes are a well-kept secret. Others like me think food all the time, everyday and any hour. I’m always thinking of ways to mix and match flavours. Sometimes your concoctions are just that concoctions but other time they become family favourites.
Don’t be afraid to try new things whether you’re a recipe book-keeper or a free food thinker. Having the right tools on hand makes for a ready cook to whip up a delicious meal when nothing has been planned for diner. Since that first time we’ve made it again and it was still a hit!!!
